I am literature student and have learned literature as a student only.
It was just for the sake of exams . Not only me mostly we tried to take
studies as a tool for employment , which force us to look for results.
The same is the case of literature students . Most of us cram each and
every poet or writer and critic to express in the exams and get good
marks for the job or employment .But during this all hit and run type of
life , a few may get job other left with repentance only. Recently , I
try to fell in love with literature but this time my purpose is not to
impress examiner or others but to enjoy the works written by great
people of the times . For this romantic journey with literature, it was
tough to decide from where to begin? Shakespeare, Milton, Wordsworth,
Coleridge, the list was long. But my search stopped with ‘JOHN DONNE” ,
the metaphysical poet of all times.
I tried to explore his works and as per my mindset I started reading and writing like an educated philosopher or researcher. It was one of the biggest obstacle , as I was following the same path, which resulted in disinterest in literature again. But I started writing question/answers to share with students of literature . Again became a judge who was to judge piece of literary work with the style and rules of others. On other hand I was loosing my interest in literature as I was becoming JUDGE/Critic only. But the realty of literature is ‘ it is meant for enjoyment and love only.
I got this lesson now and have started enjoying John Donne’s poetry. Now on wards I will share only my understanding of the work . Would like you to share your view so that we can enjoy the literature with a point in mind that ‘literature is for joy not for judgment
