work for
the sake of work
Vedanta says that the more our work becomes impersonal the
better will our work be. Vedanta
requires us to work for its(work’s) sake .We should not care for the
consequences or the results. Let the very work be our end. This Vedic science
wants us to be at rest in our inner Self. The inner Soul be at rest and the
body be continually at work. The body subjects to the law of dynamics being in
action while the inner Self always at statically rest .It is our’ Selfish Restlessness
‘that spoils all our work .Follow the work for the sake of peace. In Sri
Madbhagwat Geeta Lord Krishna Has said that ‘Arjuna ‘ no body in the world can
remain idle’ this is law of nature that everybody will be engage in some work .
Means it is work is in our nature , if we will not do work then we will be against our nature . So, we
have to work but in natural way , the
problem arises when we start proving something with our performance . In present times 99% professionals are
working very hard but are not happy. A sense of dissatisfaction is with them. Why
this dissatisfaction is there and Why law of Vedanta is not working now? Ha-ha
!! Sanatan philosophy said “work for
the sake of work” . See what is the rule? Work but no result. Today the
problem is that we use to start our work with some target and in the evening if
we achieved that target then the work is done if not then tension. Why to
ignore the work done. Senior can point at you and can warn you but why to worry
about that ? If you have worked throughout with total involvement then your
duty for the day is complete. Why you are working ? for company’s sake or for
your own interest? If you are doing work to proof something or to show others
then the tension will be your friend always and your life will be total spoil.
You are working as organization is paying and at the same time you are working
impersonally i.e. you are working naturally , out of your nature . A mother use
to care her children through out her life even if her children are not giving
her attention in old age still she wishes goodwill to them. Why? Because this
is her nature , Mothers of all creatures have one common nature and that is
“CARING”. What a cow will earn from her child , but still she use to fight with
tiger for the sake of her child. Will she get any reward or that ? No ,she is
doing her duty out of her nature that it. If your nature is to work hard do it
but never wait for recognition or reward for your dedication .Tension rises
when want to proof something or looking for promotion due to performance. Yes,
it is good for a person to expect growth , when it does not happen sadness in
full swing comes to us and we stop doing our work . While we joined an
organization for the sake of work at first but now our motto is changed instead
of work it is something else , which leads to office politics. Instead of our work
we start influence our seniors at the
cost of others. May be, will get promotion but
you will loose your nature and your nature is to work here you are doing politics which will create unrest in your
heart . It is natural. Once there was a
young saint in the jungle . His popularity was immense even king of the state
was jealous of that. The King asked his ministers to find ways to defame the
saint. A plot was prepared and king was the hero of that plot. It was announces
that the king is very ill and he is looking for a eligible candidate for the
kingdom to be appointed as a king for the time being , till king will be cured.
A group of ministers proposed name of the young saint as the future king in the
absence of King. The public supported the decision ,saint was invited to the
city and king dome was handed over to him. His cloths and appearance was
changed totally . He was a king now. After 2 years the old king came back and
asked the saint converted king to give back the state and post . Except the king
and his ministers all the natives of the kingdom stood against that order , now
they want saint turned king be their king forever. The saintking stood at once and gave all the
things and responsibilities to the real king
and wear his Saffron Dhoti at the
same moment and requested the king to permit him to go. The King and his
ministers were in a state of shock. How a person can gave up all his comforts
at once ? King himself narrated the
whole plot to the saint and disclosed
that they planned to put him in a
comfort zone and when he will be habitual of those comforts we will kick him
out , he will be reluctant to that and
would ask me to keep him in the kingdom which will lead the saint to work under
King. On this saint smiled and replied ,” O king, we all are performers, when I
was in the jungle I worked like Sanyasi
because I took that life out pf
my interest and nature. But When you people approached .It was a duty given . I
was to perform like a king as per the orders now when you ordered me to resign
from my services , I followed the same order , I worked just for the sake of
work . Now I am again a saint physically
but internally I remain saint for ever. I never to job as a point to show
someone down or proof my greatness . That is why all my work was liked by
public. O King it is my work not me
which society is liking. Here , we all use to do mistake we start
thinking that it is me which people like but it is our work which is liked by
all. So, just work work and work . The saint went away in few seconds but king and his ministers were now happy to understand Karmyoga. So, why to worry about public view or senior or office view or performance reward or increments. Just ask your self whether you enjoyed the work and satsfied with your performance, if yes then never look towards others for appreciation . Remember your reward is the sense of rest you got while working.
